I need help on this computer question?

I need help on this computer question?
I have to write a disaster plan for an IS department that operates a 150 node network housed in an office building in the Bahamas. The system inlcudes a three sever cluster and a RAID storage device with eight hard disks. An external tape drive is used for archival storage. Tapes are currently stored in a closet, along with original CDs for installed commercial software. I have to discuss a disaster recovery plan that protects my installation against the following scenarios. (Step by step please).

-The building that houses the IS department catches fire, and the entire building is destroyed.

-The room that holds the backup tapes has become infested with mice. All backup tapes in the room were destroyed.

Thanks

Sorry but I don’t think anyone here can answer that question. If you really want to find an answer for your question which I assume you do I will recommend www.google.com only problem is that it might take a bit of searching.

Also try www.youtube.com because chances are there is a video that will answer your question

1) A floppy disc is actually a piece of Mylar similar that is used for overhead transparencies
2) A 3 1/2 inch high density floppy disc has 224 entries in the root directory
3) Subdirectories can have as many entries as disk space allows
4) You may share IRQs with ISA devices on the ISA bus
5) THe number of memory addresses is partly limited
6) Hard copy is a term associated with a printer
7) Newer motherboards typically do not provide a connection for a floppy drive
icon cool Can you answer true or false to these computer questions? Most SRAM now inside the processor housing
9) WHen examining memory measured in nanoseconds, the larger the number, the faster the memory
10) CISC CPUs are typically faster than RISC CPUs
11) One port fails on a non critial machine. You shold replace the motherboard
12) In windows 9x, a compressed drive is not a drive at all, its a file
13) Hardware disk cache is faster thank a software cache
14) You should verify that your recovery plans works by practicing it before disaster occurs

Thanks for your time

How will you learn if I tell you the answers? But here they are:

1. False – it’s a magnetic surface
2. True – yes, 224 root directories possible
3. False – Windows has a limit on directories and subdirectories- 255 deep maximum.
4. False – ISA are memory address specific-no sharing.
5. True – only sixteen IRQ but with port steering and USB managing them, it can appear to be more than sixteen.
6. True – hard copy/paper copy
7. False – Yes they do in case you want to use them.
8. False – SRAM is on cards, HD and hardware -too slow for processor.
9. False – smaller is always faster
10. False – less instructions to prevent slow down of processing time.
11. False – Just use another port if available
12. True – A compressed drive would not function-only a big file.
13. True – way faster!
14. True – of course!

Let me know how I did on your homework. icon smile Can you answer true or false to these computer questions?

I need an all-purpose server with remote access?

Hi, i need a server box that has antivirus, file server and disaster recovery backup. I also need a website with a few email address, web hosting and I need to be able to have remote access to the server. I currently own a small company with a few employees and I have some specialized software that I would like to setup on this box and access from multiple locations.

Does anyone know of a company that can provide all this for me, or how I can do it on my own for cheap?

You can access your server from anywhere with the help of the cpanel. However, to access both your local drive and the server you can use a remote access software, you can access your PC from another computer. For the past few months, I’m using I’mInTouch software. You can check, here:

remote access software http://www.01com.com/
remote pc access software http://www.01com.com/

It should work.

Our IT products are market potential but not as famous as those from IBM, HP, Lenovo…. It is self-researched. How can I promote our products abroad?

Our products include: trusted server, trusted disk storage system, direct attached storage system (DAS), trusted firewall, SVN, UTM, HIS, EMS, digital rights management system-digital watermarking, CA authorization and automated remote network security testing system, etc. There is a selling point among these products: trusted. Trusted technology is put forwarded by TCG(trusted computing group with its TPM(trusted platform management)idea which specifically is an security measure by inserting a hardware-based encrypting chip into the compute system or network system and is the fundamental way of network security solutions rather than software based solutions in the surface.

The basic parts of our products keep identical as those of famous brands, for example, Xeon CPU. The features of our trusted products are as below:

★ Identity Authentication: using CA and PKI technology and having authority to issue digital certificate.

★ Authorization: only identified and authenticated computers can be authorized with the service of the trusted server.

★ Recording: ability to record the activities of each of its login computers, either working dependently or together with a log server.

★ Encryption: encryption of the sensitive system data to secure the system operation.

★ Disaster recovery: backup of the data in the hardware and make a copy after the damage in a auto-start way.

How to make infamous products popular? How can I do the export? Looking for oversea agents a good solution? I have been really anxious these days. Hope to get your suggestion. Thank you in advance!

Well I hate to keep this answer so short after your long and detailed question but you will probably need an export management and/or logistics company to get physical copies of your product on your way. Either that or a good Law Attorney that specializes in this area.

I’m in noway an expert on this but I do know it’s very complicated. Laws. Political reasons many things based on Religious beliefs etc.

I’m not a specialist at this so it could be much simpler but doubt it.

Also maybe some of your software products could be sold and marketed via internet, and well known Internet Companies such as Ebay, CNET, or Amazon. for downloads to be published for Free advertising. http://Download.com (CNET) is one example of where you can submit Ideas for trial downloads of software or Programs for sell.

Computer staff recruiting question?

Obviously I do not need YOU!! to answer as if you were in an interview, but give me some sort of indication of what I should expect to hear or be looking out for would be appreciated

Describe the process you would go through in order to roll out a software package using both Active Directory and Group Policy.

Can you explain the function of a firewall?

Do you have any experience with Microsoft Office SharePoint Server 2007? If so, can you explain how you have used it in the past?

Can you explain the disaster recovery process that you had in place in a previous position?

Can you explain the major differences between a switch and hub?

You are in the office dealing with a damaged staff laptop, when the phone rings. It’s an irate user telling you they’ve run out of printer credit. At the same time one of the servers starts beeping an alarm signal. How do you deal with this situation?

Describe some form of network documentation you have produced in the past
Any scenario solutions appreciated

Sincere THANKS to all answers,
I need to make it clear I am NOT!!! seeking answers for myself on how to answer the above Q’s
I have done my time in the trenches
Am looking ofr serious answers of other opions from people.

Well if I was interviewing you I would expect to hear accurate answers to the factual questions and then would follow up with (initially) one or two questions to verify your understanding. If you stumble on those questions a couple more would be offered to give you a chance to recover.

With the opinion type questions I would expect to get a rational answer from you and then you would be asked to defend your answer by answering provocative questions.

Remember that the interviewer will be trying to find out what you do know rather than what you don’t know and that they probably have a prior view of what answer they expect.

At the same time they will be evaluating you for how you would fit into their company and work team.

Good luck.

I worked very hard on the customer’s computer. The computer was infested with viruses and malware, hardrive partition errors, had a pirated Windows OS license on it (one of the reasons it was inoperable: he tried to run Vista SP1 and they caught him on a pirated license), and it was choked with pet dander and cigarette residue.

I completely cleaned the insides of the PC (including all fans, vents, heatsync), cleaned and applied new heatsync compound to his processor (it was overheating). I then spent at least 13 hours recovering all of his 300+gigs personal folders (family computer, used by 6 users), reinstalling a VALID OS and license, formatted his drives, recovered his software licenses (done prior to format) & downloaded his software (he had no cd’s for the applications) and reinstalled all of it, plus antivirus and anti-malware software, restores all of his personal folders, and imaged his drive as a clean backup for future disaster recovery.

I only charged and billed him 3 hours at $30/hour ($90), which is a heck of a deal. I charged that low because I was broke and he promised to bring me more business.

So I called and left him a voice mail message, emailed him, and cell texted him, everyday since the computer was ready for him to pick up. He hasn’t responded. Then after 2 weeks, I texted him and explained to him that I am broke and I’m about to put an on Craigslist to sell his PC for the un-paid debt, and NOW he texts me and gives me some sob story, but he has yet to pay me. Basically just giving me a run-around.

Now my question is this: what are the Texas laws regarding this situation, and how long must I wait before it’s legal for me to basically auction the property to recover this debt?

Another detail is that there was never a contract. I never gave him (nor was I asked for) a receipt when the customer left his PC and asked me to fix it. However, he was fully aware of the magnitude of the needed repairs, and fully aware of my hourly rate.
Ed Atun: "You’re right, it is the State Laws (Texas) that decide these matters. You, admittedly, are ignorant of these. Furthermore, since you haven’t bothered to cite a source to back up your claim, and therefore it must be assumed that your comments are arbitrary and inconsequential."

I welcome any answer that can be backed up with a valid source, and which considers relevant local laws and regulations. Thanks!

You can not make a contract where none exists. If you had a contract that gave him 120 days to pay or you could sell, you would be covered. Which means that you need to institute that policy today.

Since you did not, you would have to go to Small Claims Court to get satisfaction. The next question is how long you have to store his item before it is considered abandoned. That would be part of your state’s laws. Probably 3-6 months.

If you have important data, you should ALWAYS keep backup copies off-site. At someone’s home, in a safe deposit box at a bank, somewhere. It doesn’t matter, as long as it’s not in the same physical location as the real data. Keeping the backups in the closet next to the computers is worthless in the event of a fire.

I’m not going to write a step by step disaster recovery plan for you. This is your project, do it yourself.
