Why do you imagine bad things come about?
Issue by A Moderate Skeptic: Why do you imagine bad points come about?
Okay so I already asked a related question but I want to get a different viewpoint on this. I’m not making an attempt to be vital of religions, but can you describe why undesirable items occur with out declaring some thing like “god works in mysterious methods” or “god is screening us” or “god has a strategy”?
I like to believe rationally and feel negative issues take place because folks pick to do them (ie. stealing, lying, murder). However, there are tonnes of bad points that cant be explained by rationality or faith (like all-natural disasters that eliminate innocent families, children who die for the duration of birth). Why do you think these items occur? By contemplating rationally, are they random events that just happen to happen or is there something else going on? By thinking religiously, what objective would there be for god to “exam” us by permitting innocent individuals die?
In my view, god, as the creator of the complete universe, should be able to cease these issues from taking place. Doesnt it appear rational that god possibly:
one. Doesnt have the ability to cease these points, or
two. Has the capability to stop them but doesnt usually do so
What are your ideas on this?

bad issues occur simply because very good issues come about.

Nature has its reasons
SATAN
“Bad” things happen either due to 1) the likely results of illegal or irresponsible behavior, or 2) luck of the draw. There’s always SOMEBODY at the tail end of the bell curve. If something has a 1 in a billion chance of happening to somebody, and we have over 6 billion people on the planet, chances are good that it will still happen to somebody.
So we will know when good things happen. Without bad there cannot be good.
Yin and Yang.
Where there is Good, there is Bad otherwise you wouldn’t be able to differentiate between the two.
because bad things happen.
Free will. People can choose to be good or bad. They may be influenced by their parents, teachers, environment, etc, but in the end it is the individuals choice.
From a religious perspective, I would say that god would not intervene because doing so would remove the aspect of free will from a given situation.
Why do bad things happen to good people? Because bad people do bad things to good people.
Bad things happen because stupid people make cruel choices. Natural disasters happen because we live on a big rock that’s chemically imbalanced, and it’s really close to a huge ball of burning hydrogen.
if there wasn’t bad, who would really appreciate the good. That’s the only reason i can think of, and even if ppl can give u some better explanation, no one will be able to give u the true answer bcuz only god knows.
But i would go with 2 bcuz like i said, if god only allowed the good to happen, we wouldnt appreciate it and life would be pretty pointless.
Bad things happen to people who are sleep walking their way through life. How often is your attention in the now, and not in tomorrow or yesterday, or what so and so may think, or what’s for dinner, etc.
Paying attention to ones surroundings and what is going on will get you out of trouble, by way of your avoiding trouble in the first place.
Sorry I find it impossible to suspend all logic and sense in favor of a totally unsubstantiated dark ages theory about a label to describe ignorance. ie God.
Practicing Shaman… quantum physics rocks.
I believe that God can stop these things, but allows them to happen. Bad things happen to all of us because of what many consider “original sin”. Loving God despite adversity is what makes us stronger. It also brings us closer to God.
I do not believe God is vengeful, these are certainly random events in the sense we cannot predict them. But none the less, they happened and are a very real part of the human condition…
Because nature is utterly indifferent to the welfare of people.
I read in a Jehovah book that God and the Devil both exist on this earth and remember the devil is pretty powerful too. Although God knows what is best for us he gives us choice. And the Devil does not question God’s power, just if God’s in charge, so God has no reason to destroy him. I wish you could have read that verse in the Jehovah book explaining why bad things happen. Bottom line is that it’s like a student who questions the teacher the teacher will let the student go up in class to try and prove him wrong, the teacher God will let the student the Devil go up as the other students US watch him go to the board and mess up, but we have to follow God’s way the teacher even when a student the Devil thinks he’s right and is proven wrong in the end.
I like your question
Things like birth defects of death during labor are all simply chance.
Meaning that statically speaking it has to happen no matter what.
Although you can raise your chances of losing a child during birth by many many thing like drinking or smoking or simply being to young to have a baby.
there is ALWAYS a reason (a scientific one that is)
Odds are a doctor wont say “i have no idea why you didn’t have the baby”
There is always something that contributed to this.
The same rules go for anything.
Edit: To Jeremy
yea were sure do have free will thats why if we dont do what god says were going to hell.
Sounds like free will to me
Bad things happen because a long time ago, Adam and Eve let sin into the world. Ever since then, it’s been downhill. Yes we do cause most bad things, like murder and rape and such, because we do those by free will. Natural disasters, however, are of only God’s hand and we don’t know why.
This earth IS a test, it’s a test to see who is loyal to God and who isn’t.
And when innocent people die, it’s not always something completely bad.
For example, my boyfriends sister died before she was a year old. Going through that event eventually turned his father to God. So now his father is saved, he is saved, his little brother is saved, and now I am saved through them. And while we don’t know for sure, it’s assumed that his sister’s soul was saved as well-for being so young.
So while death is a tragic thing, what happens to your soul is MUCH more important than what happens to your life.
God Bless
Idk, but my theory is the only way any of this could be considered fair or just would be to consider the possibility of reincarnation. However for me that still doesnt work because even if that where so whoever we may have been before wouldnt be us therefore it is not just we should suffer for it. Maybe our souls need to learn from suffering to be perfected with the virtues and made fit for heaven.
I think your definition really means “things we would not normally choose to experience” are bad. When these are really just things that take us out of our comfort zone.
Life is about development. It is about learning and growing (emotionally, spiritually and intellectually). We need good and bad things to happen to develop. If you go through life without experiencing anything “bad” then it is not very likely we are going to actually develop and learn much.
What would you think of some one who spent their life in front of a TV, never went out and never tried or experienced anything. They could go through life without experiencing anything “bad,” yet would they be a better person in the end?
If I could go back in time I would not undo one bad thing that happened to me (although I have had several). This is because I am very happy with myself now. I have learned a lot and believe I am a much better person than I ever was BECAUSE of my experiences.
It is all about the journey. Like it or not, those of us who wish to get something out of life crave such things. It may be a simplistic comparison, but that’s why we crave thrills like roller coasters and that’s why we do seemingly stupid things, like touching a hot iron or sticking a key in an electrical socket when we are kids. Curiosity craves it and often the outcome gets labeled as “good” or “bad.”
Bad things are perfectly explained by rationality.
Natural disasters happen for natural reasons – it’s implied in the name. Volcanoes, hurricanes, droughts, floods, tornadoes, earthquakes, tsunami – weather is driven by the sun and the rest are driven by geological processes. Alas for people, sometimes they’re living in the way of these things. Sad, but predictable and totally understandable.
As for death in childbirth, the process of evolution from a quadrupedal, small-brained creature to a bipedal, large-brained creature has had some unfortunate side effects. One is that the child has to be born relatively small and helpless in order to get through the female’s birth canal (most primates have infants who are much more capable at birth than humans are). There’s a lot of stress and strain on the infant, and if it’s born in the wrong position or if it’s too large or too early, the results are predictable, even before you add in the consequences of illness and accidents when the child is growing up. It wasn’t until the 20th century that people could be relatively sure that they wouldn’t lose at least one child. Now it’s seen as exceptional, a great tragedy, rather than something that happened to almost everyone.
we live in a fallen world and things are only get worst before the lord returns for the ones that are waiting for his return.but if you are in christ,he is living in you today and is guiding you into all truth.he is our life he is our guide we stand in his rightiousness,he truly has done it all, we are the branches he is the vine if we abide in the vine he will produce the fruit.and without jesus we can dp nothing.
I don’t know why things happen the way that they do. I am always told that there is a purpose for everything. But what my sons went through with my x..for people to tell me it was meant to happen is just plan disturbing to me. I guess that when people do things wrong..then eventually it catches up with them and sometimes it involves innocent people. I know that god put us all here for a reason, but I believe that things intervene with life. The choices that we make take us on roads that lead us in situations that are good and bad. I believe that people are taught at a young age how to be and based on teachings and interventions it deter minds our outcome in life. If we don’t steal and know it is wrong we may not do it, but put us with others who do and paint a convincing picture…like the man that was caught stealing pain medicine for his wife broke into a pharmacy. God I believe gave his son for our sins, but we ourselves have to decide what is right and wrong. Temptation is within all of us, we all use it differently. Bad things happen as a part of life’s choices. Like the earths condition…as humans we made some poor choices…illnesses affect us based on our behaviors and desires. My husband said that someone once said that humans was a virus. I don’t remember who he quoted..but it makes sense when you look at all we do. The world has changed so much and morals are so different now. We live with many different upbringings and beliefs and morals that it is hard to predict what someone is capable of. God is with us along the way and gives us the strength to pull through it, but he is not able to stop things I don’t believe..that was a part of giving us his son..to give us our own choice.
No thing just ‘happens’. There is always a choice, conscious or unconscious, made before each action, reaction, or non- action.
Blaming, and using God as an excuse is ridiculous- the earth is a free will zone. Up to these days almost anything had gone here. Luckily a slow change has occurred, also at collective level, to better.
OK so you mentioned natural disasters, and deaths of babies. The earth is a living thing. Natural disasters are the earth’s clever way to return balance. Macrocosm- microcosm … e.g. a volcano erupts- this could be compared to a stomach bug; one vomits to get rid of the nasty bacteria, and in this way, balance in the body is restored.
Are you aware that the more we have been destroying this planet, the more there have been natural disasters? People have not lived in harmony with themselves, not to mention with others around them- the earth simply reflects back the collective energy, which is negative. So, the earth has been trying to restore balance, which to us shows as a natural disaster, lost homes, and deaths as a consequence.
About babies…by one metaphysical explanation we are here on a ‘contract’. Some beings/souls want to terminate their contract before their temple= physical body is born.
The creator is not in charge of our actions, be they individual or collective- we are.
